Manipulatable Biomechanical Variables of Triathlons

Swimming:

- Stroke Cadence

- Stroke Length

- Amount of water “caught” with each arm stroke

- Frequency and Amplitude of Kick

Biking:

- Cadence

- Force applied to the pedals during the pedal stroke

Running:

- Cadence

- Ground contact time

- Stride Length

An improvement in one of the variables with no or minimal change in the others will lead to an increase in speed.

Not listed in this article but of importance are the aerodynamics and the actual training (intensity and frequency) associated with each of the sports.
